About the event

Historic family festival is named in honor of Julius "July" Perry a wealthy and well respected member of Ocoees black community, who was one of many african americans murdered in the ocoee Massacre for their land and exercising their right to vote.  The ocoee Massacre was an attack on African-American residents in northern Ocoee, Florida which occurred on November 2, 1920, the day of the U.S. Presidential election.  An unknown amount of African Americans were killed on that day over 500 of them were driven from there land by violence.  Most African American owned buildings and residences in Northen ocoee were burned to the ground.  The Massacre has been described as the "single bloodiest day in modern American Political history".
